Last Saturday night, the Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (DCCI’s) Business Excellence Awards saw 160 people come together to recognise outstanding achievement across ten award categories.
The annual event’s peak award – the Outstanding Business Award – was taken out by Forth based vegetable producer, Harvest Moon. Starting its life as a small business in 1981, the company now employs more than 400 in multiple states and exports fresh vegetables all over the world.
The inaugural Geraldine Sheehan Women in Business Trailblazer Award went to respected construction industry figure, Vonette Mead of Mead Con. Vonette’s many other community and business roles include Deputy Mayor at Latrobe Council and President at Master Builders Tasmania.
This new award was instigated by the chamber to celebrate the legacy of the late Geraldine Sheehan, a highly regarded real estate identity who contributed to the DCCI and the wider business community over many decades.
Farmer advocate Mike Badcock received a special President’s Commendation from DCCI President Claire Connelly, who praised his long-standing commitment to advocacy in the areas of agriculture, skills and training.
DCCI President, Claire Connelly, praised all nominees, sponsors and her fellow volunteer Executive Board members, for making it a night to remember.
“Once again, so many people have pitched in to create a fantastic Devonport business event, underpinned by their belief in our city,” said Connelly.
“It’s an incredibly exciting time to do business in Devonport, and while running a business isn’t easy, hopefully events like this and the recognition and fellowship that comes with it, help make it worthwhile.”
