The Reverse vending Machine in Wivenhoe has seen more than 1 million eligible containers through Recycle Rewards since the program began on 1 May 2025.
Tassie’s Container Refund Scheme is a key Tasmanian Government initiative that aims to reduce litter and increase recycling across the state.
In late July, the centre had seen over 679,000 containers recycled by locals with the showing a keen interest in the scheme.
Statewide total eligible containers returned is 29.5 million with a statewide daily average of 238,000.
The Northwest alone has had a total of 6.5 million eligible containers returned giving Burnie a daily average 8429 and rising.
Recycle Rewards will provide Tasmanians with a 10 cent refund for each eligible drink container returned to refund points around Tasmania.
There is also a Recycle Rewards Depot in Somerset.
